Personal data

You alone decide whether or not you wish to disclose this data to us within the context of a registration, contact request or similar. In general, we will use your personal data in order to respond to your query, to fulfil your order or to provide you with access to special information or offers.

You have the opportunity to provide us with your personal data voluntarily as part of a registration process, contact request or similar. In such circumstances it may be necessary to transmit your data to another Group company. Your data will not be transferred to any third party outside of the Group unless your query or the service/product you have requested explicitly requires it. If this is the case, you will be notified accordingly at the appropriate point in the process. If you wish, you can also provide us with personal data via applications integrated into our platform (contact forms or services requiring a user account, for example). Conditions for the use of these applications may differ from those in the present privacy policy. We will explicitly draw your attention to such instances within additional data protection clauses. The legal basis for processing of personal data required for the performance of a contract to which you are a contractual party is Article 6(1)(b) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To the extent we are required to obtain consent from the data subject for the processing of personal data, the legal basis for such processing is Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR

General information

When you visit our websites or retrieve a file, data relating to this process is saved in a log file on our web server. This data is not considered personal data. In other words, we cannot track which user has accessed which data. This means that the data your browser transmits to us is automatically collected and stored when a user accesses our website.

The data collected includes:

- the domain name of the website you came from

- the websites you visited within our Internet presence

- the names of any files retrieved

- date and time of retrieval

- the name of your Internet service provider

- in some cases, details of your PC’s operating system and browser version

- host name of the computer from which you accessed the site (IP address)

- language settings

This data is collected for security and statistical purposes and to help us optimise our Internet presence. This data is not attributed to individual persons and is not combined with other data sources. The data is stored for six months, after which time it is deleted. Your data is not forwarded to third parties. In individual cases, we may be obliged by the responsible public authorities to disclose your personal data if this is required for the purposes of protection against threats to public safety, law enforcement or on other legal grounds.

IP addresses

We have opted not to log IP addresses in order to allow you to use our website anonymously. We pseudonymise your IP address using a procedure that complies with the data protection requirements before saving it in our web server log file. We use these pseudonymised IP addresses to detect and prevent attacks or to create web statistics, for example.

Website analysis and optimisation using cookies and tracking pixels

We use cookies and tracking technologies on our websites. We use these to optimise our websites and further develop our services, as well as for marketing purposes. Read on for an explanation of these technologies and the way they work.

When you visit one of our websites, we store information in the form of a cookie on your computer. We will automatically recognise this cookie upon your next visit. Cookies are text files that are saved on a user’s Internet browser or by the Internet browser on a user’s computer system. When a user accesses a website, a cookie can be saved in that user’s operating system. This cookie contains a distinctive character string that enables unique identification of the browser when the website is accessed again.

Using cookies helps us offer you unrestricted use of our website. Cookies help us make your visit to our website as convenient as possible. For instance, cookies allow us to adapt a website to your interests or save your username so that you don’t need to enter it again each time you visit the website.

We also place tracking pixels on our website. Tracking pixels are small graphics on websites that enable log file recording and analysis. When a user visits a website, the tracking pixels write information into the cookie file in the user’s browser. Using pixels allows us to show you targeted information and content.

RHEINBRAUN BRENNSTOFF GMBH uses the following types of cookies and pixels:

Analytical cookies

We use cookies on our website that make it possible to analyse users’ surfing behaviour. Analytical cookies allows us to analyse our websites so that we can measure and improve their performance. In this context, we use cookies for what’s known as range measurement. With the help of these cookies, we create statistical profiles that cannot be traced back to individual persons, but rather to groups. These are used to analyse user and click behaviour as well as the demographic characteristics of website visitors.

Google Analytics

Scope of processing personal data

On our site, we use the web tracking service from Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Park in 94043 Mountain View, USA (hereafter referred to as ‘Google Analytics’). Within the scope of web tracking, Google Analytics uses cookies, which are stored on your computer and allow your use of the site and surfing behaviour to be analysed; this is known as tracking. We carry out this analysis on the basis of the Google Analytics tracking service to continuously optimise our online offering, as well as to make it more accessible. When you use our website, data, in particular your IP address and your user activities, is transmitted to servers held by Google LLC and is processed and stored outside the European Union, such as in the US.

The European Commission has determined that a suitable level of data protection can exist in the US if the company processing the data has pledged to uphold the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework and the data export to the US has been reliably designed in this way. When IP anonymisation is activated within the Google Analytics tracking code on this website, Google Analytics anonymises your IP address prior to transmission. This website uses a Google Analytics tracking code to which the operator gat._anonymizeIp(); has been added to only enable anonymised collection of IP addresses (what is known as IP masking).

Legal basis for processing personal data

Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR (consent), either within the scope of registration via Google (opening a Google account and accepting the privacy policy implemented there) or, if you haven’t registered via Google, through explicit consent when opening our website.

Purpose of data processing

Google will use this information on our behalf to analyse your visit to this website, to compile reports about website activities and to provide us with further services in connection with the use of the website and of the Internet. The IP address transmitted by your browser in the context of Google Analytics will not be combined with other data held by Google LLC.

Duration of storage
Google will store data relevant for providing web tracking as long as is necessary to fulfil the booked web service. Data collection and storage are carried out anonymously. If the data can be attributed to a particular person, the data is immediately deleted, provided that it is not subjected to any statutory storage obligations. In all cases, the data is deleted after the storage obligation has expired.

Options to object and eliminate
You can prevent the collection and forwarding of personal data (particularly your IP address) to Google as well as the processing of this data by Google by deactivating the execution of script code in your browser, installing a script blocker in your browser (you can find one, for example, at www.noscript.net or www.ghostery.com) or activating the ‘Do Not Track’ setting in your browser. Moreover, you can prevent Google’s collection of the data (including your IP address) generated by the Google cookie related to your usage of the website as well as Google’s processing of this data by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available at the following link (http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de ).  You can read more about the Google Analytics security and data security principles at http://www.google.com/intl/de/analytics/learn/privacy.html .

The processing of your data as set out above is required to uphold the legitimate interests of RHEINBRAUN and is justified by a consideration of interests in favour of RHEINBRAUN. RHEINBRAUN also has a justified interest in processing your data as set out above accordingly; namely, an interest in the communication of essential information about its own plans and corporate activities through the functional operation of its own websites. Your legitimate interest in ensuring that your aforementioned data will not be used for this purpose does not outweigh this legitimate interest of RHEINBRAUN, as RHEINBRAUN uses this data appropriately for the described processing purpose and you have the option to prevent the storage of cookies.

Social media cookies

Social media cookies give you the option to connect directly with your social media account as needed. They allow you to share websites on social networks and post comments.

We also use cookies for what is known as social media targeting. With the help of cookies, we have the option to exchange data with social media companies (such as Google or Facebook) using a hash value to show you personalised content in banners and ads. Neither we nor our service providers can trace this back to you as an individual. User-based targeting consists of three steps: collecting data via tracking pixels, storing and processing log file information and, ultimately, using this information when readdressing users through retargeting or lookalike retargeting.

Social media pixels and cookies are only activated and only transmit data if you have previously provided us with your consent via the settings in the cookie consent banners. When accessing our websites, you are informed about the use of social media cookies in our ‘cookie banner’, and your consent to processing personal data used in this context is obtained. You are provided with this information about data protection at this point. Your consent to the processing of your personal data using social media cookies and pixels serves as the legal basis for our processing of your personal data.

You have the right to revoke your consent with future effect at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of the processing that has been carried out on the basis of your consent until that time. The easiest way to assert the revocation of your consent is by adding the corresponding opt-out cookie/pixel to our cookie and pixel list, which you can access here.

Duration of storage

We store the information transmitted to us through cookies and pixels for the time periods specified below following collection, after which it is automatically deleted.

Storage duration by cookie category

- Analytical cookies: 24 months

- Social media cookies: three months

Children

Children must not transfer any personal data to RHEINBRAUN websites without the permission of a parent or guardian. RHEINBRAUN advises all parents and guardians to instruct children on how to handle personal data online in a safe and responsible manner. In any event, RHEINBRAUN will not knowingly collect or use in any way personal data from children, or disclose it to third parties without authorisation.

Security

RHEINBRAUN takes a range of precautions to ensure the security of your personal data. Your data will be conscientiously protected against loss, destruction, falsification, manipulation and unauthorised access or unauthorised disclosure.

Links to other websites

RHEINBRAUN websites contain links to other websites. As the operator of our website, we are only responsible for the content of our own online presence. A distinction is drawn between our own content and content maintained by third parties for which we accept no responsibility and which content we do not seek to appropriate. We have no influence on whether the operators of the websites linked with us comply with the applicable data protection regulations. The present privacy statement therefore does not apply to the Internet sites of other providers, including where these are retrieved via links on the website. For this reason, we ask you to please observe the respective regulations on data protection of the other providers. We are thus not liable for the content of third-party websites. Should you notice a breach related to a link, we would kindly ask you to draw our attention to it. We will then investigate the breach and, if necessary, immediately remove the link in question.

Corporate identities on social media (fan pages on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube)

We use our social media presence to seek out active communication with you and give you the opportunity to learn about our products and services.

Please note that, within the scope of your visits to our social media profiles, the processing of personal data cannot be excluded in countries outside the European Union. This can, under certain circumstances, be affiliated with the risk of impeded law enforcement, which represents a risk for the individual users.

When you visit our company profiles, cookies are usually stored on your computer. Usage conduct and user interests are stored there. Usually, the data collected in this way is used for market research and advertising purposes, whereby an ad that is presumed to correspond to the user’s (i.e., your) interests is shown conditionally depending on user conduct.

We can access various types of statistical data via our Facebook page, thanks to the ‘Insights’ on Facebook pages. Facebook generates and provides these statistics. As the operator, we do not have any influence on the creation and representation of these statistics. We cannot switch off this function or prevent the generation and processing of data. Facebook provides us with the following data related to our Facebook page, for a selectable time period as well as for the respective categories of fans, subscribers, persons reached and interacting persons:

total number of page views, ‘Liked’ figures, page activities, post interactions, range, video views, post range, comments, shared content, answers, percentage male/female, origin (country and city), language, views and clicks in the shop, clicks on the route planner, clicks on phone numbers. Data on the Facebook groups linked with our Facebook page is also provided in this way. Due to the continuous development of Facebook, the availability and preparation of the data changes; for this reason, please refer to the Facebook Data Policy (https://www.facebook.com/policy.php) for more information. We use this data, which is made available to us in aggregated form, to make our posts and activities on our Facebook page more appealing to users. To this end, we have agreed on a Page Insights Controller Addendum with Facebook.

We process your personal data on the basis of our justified interest in communication with you. Furthermore, it may be the case that you are asked to provide your consent to the processing of your data by the provider of the respective social media platform.

We do not have any influence over the data collected by the provider of the respective social media platform, nor are we aware of the full scope of data collection, the purposes of processing or the retention periods. We are also not provided with information from the respective provider regarding the deletion of the collected data. Correspondingly, we would like to note that the data subject’s rights must be asserted against the provider, since, ultimately, only the provider has direct access to the collected data and can accordingly take measures and provide information. For that reason, we must forward requests that we receive to the provider.

If you require further information regarding the data processing operations, please contact the respective provider directly:

- Facebook

- Instagram

- YouTube

Sending newsletters

We offer you the option to sign up for our newsletter on our website and in embedded frames on our social media profiles. If you have provided consent to receiving the respective newsletter, we will use your e-mail address and, if applicable, your name to send (to the extent possible, personalised) information about RHEINBRAUN. We save and process this data for the purpose of sending the newsletter.

The newsletter contents contain information about RHEINBRAUN. At present, these are, in particular:

- Currently, none.

Art. 6(1)(a) of the GDPR serves as the legal basis for the data processing named above.

In order to ensure that no errors occurred when the e-mail address was provided, we use what is known as the double opt-in method: After you have entered your e-mail address into the registration field, we send you a confirmation link. Your e-mail address is not added to our mailing list until you click this confirmation link.

You can revoke your consent to receiving the respective newsletter at any time with future effect; for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter on our website. There is a link to the unsubscribe page included at the end of each newsletter. The lawfulness of the processing of your personal data until the time of the revocation remains unaffected by the revocation. Your personal data will be deleted six months after the receipt of your unsubscription.

If external processors are used to carry out the newsletter dispatch, these will be contractually bound pursuant to Article 28 of the GDPR.
